How to plan your next (affordable) holiday

The holiday season is coming up and you are likely thinking about your holiday plans. There is a lot to plan, especially if you want to make affordability a priority.

Choosing your location

The holiday destination you choose will affect your budget. Have you considered a staycation? This is where you take a holiday in your own country rather than going abroad. Chances are good that there is still a lot for you to explore in your own backyard and it will cost so much less.

If you have your heart set on going overseas, consider inexpensive destinations like South East Asia. Find a friendly local travel agent or hunt for the best deals online.

Know your budget

Before you can make any arrangements you need to think about your budget. How much can you afford to spend on a holiday?

What if you don’t have savings for a holiday when you need one the most? Well, you could always apply for a Direct Axis Personal Loan of up to R150 000. This way you can have the holiday you deserve (and desperately need) and pay it off over a period of time. It is important that you choose a loan that you can afford to repay every month.

Think about your itinerary and spending together

Some people like to plan a strict itinerary to make the most out of every hour, while others prefer to take it as it comes.

Even if you err on the side of spontaneity, it is still a good idea for you to have a general idea of where you will be staying and what you will be doing. This way you can get a rough idea of how much everything will cost so that you don’t get a fright later on and realise that your holiday is going to be more expensive than you bargained for, especially when it’s too late to change your mind.

Choosing your dates

Chances are that prices are more expensive during peak holiday season, no matter where your destination is. This is true for flights, accommodation and entertainment. Therefore, if you can, try to book your holiday out of the busy season.

Remember to also book your flights well in advance, keeping a lookout for deals and specials.
Follow these steps and not only will you be able to plan a holiday you will never forget, you will be able to plan the most affordable holiday too.
